Il Campionissimo, Fausto Coppi. There are legends, and then there are icons. Few sportsmen fit the latter title more than Coppi. His incredible feats, pure and perfect style and tragically early death ensure that to this day Coppi is revered, an untouchable, God-like figure. Cycling style personified.
Fausto won, and more often than not, won alone. His legend was born of his exploits: incredible escapes, long range attacks, entire pelotons dropped from his wheel. For Coppi, all his victories, all his panache, was equal: when asked to choose his career highlights, he refused.
