De Ronde: The Tour of Flanders - Cycling Art Print
An unassuming name for the race many rate as the greatest of them all. Famous for a brutal and relentless series of 'bergs' (hills), the names of which have become famous around the world - truly some of the most feared, hallowed and iconic names in cycling. The bergs are short, steep cobbled climbs, tackled in quick succession.
Difficult in the dry, near impossible in the wet, many of the pro cyclist reduced to walking at some stage. Historically the race has often climaxed with the Muur van Geraardsbergen, one of the steepest of them all. At the top the riders pass the chapel of Our Lady of Oudenberg - few have time to enjoy the view. This artwork captures the bleak fields of early spring in Flanders, the wall of cobbles and the hallowed chapel.
