About

The Arenberg Trench. Two hundred riders thunder into the narrow, cobbled farm track through the Arenberg Forest with dreams of winning the greatest classic of them all, Paris Roubaix. By the time they exit, some two-and-a-half brutal kilometres later, the dreams of all but an elite handful are shattered.

In 1968 the unwary peloton tackled the Trench for the first time. As the riders hit the Arenberg pavé the young Eddy Merckx, only 23 but already riding in the rainbow stripes of world champion, attacked the lead group. The race exploded, Merckx rode on to win his first Roubaix and two legends were born. As Merckx confirmed his greatness the Arenberg Trench secured its reputation as the most feared road in cycling.

Our print features Merckx - resplendent in the arc en ciel jersey - attacking on the long, straight road through Arenberg, the central detail of our Arenberg ‘68 cobblestone logo and pattern. The print celebrates the essence of Paris Roubaix: the relentless cobbles, the intimating distance, the greys and greens of the Northern French spring, and the dreams of glory ahead.
