About The Handmade Cyclist Ltd
At The Handmade Cyclist Ltd, we celebrate cycling culture through beautifully designed off-bike goods and services — apparel, posters, ceramics, and lifestyle products that capture the spirit of the ride. Based in the South Downs National Park, our designs reflect the freedom, creativity, and camaraderie of cycling culture.
Alongside our core brand, we also run South Downs Social, Winchester’s most sociable cycling café, where community, connection, and creativity come together and the The Armchair Cyclist, a league-style game where cycling fans compete by predicting race outcomes and tracking riders—all from the comfort of their armchair
About the Role
We’re seeking a designer to shape the future of our brands, creating designs that fuse heritage, performance, and contemporary style and that are not afraid to be bold, irreverent, and storytelling-driven.
What You’ll Do
-
Design everything. Apparel, posters, ceramics, accessories—if it has our name on it, you’ll have a hand in designing it.
-
Create digital content. Develop social media assets, newsletters, web visuals, and video graphics.
-
Art direct & shoot. Help lead photoshoots, create engaging product imagery, and capture content that brings our brand to life.
-
Edit like a pro. Work with CapCut (or similar) to make slick, engaging video edits for our community.
-
Be a brand guardian. Maintain consistency across all design outputs while pushing the creative boundaries.
-
Support the South Downs Social. From menus to event posters, your design work will shape South Downs Social’s identity.
Who You Are
-
A designer with a strong aesthetic and a sharp eye for detail. You get branding, you get subcultures, and you know how to make things look good.
-
A pro in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Bonus points if you dabble in 3D or motion design.
-
A cultural sponge—tapped into cycling, streetwear, design, and the creative scenes around them. Interest in cycling is a bonus, but not essential – you’ll be working with cycling geeks who have plenty of knowledge.
-
Comfortable with photography & video editing. You don’t need to be a filmmaker, but you should be able to shoot and edit dynamic content.
-
Fast-moving and adaptable. We’re a small, ambitious brand—you need to be ready to wear many creative hats.
What We Offer
-
A creative, and independent work environment supported by the Creative Director.
-
Real creative freedom—your designs will help shape the future of our brands.
-
A discount on our products and brands.
-
The chance to work in Winchester, surrounded by the landscapes that inspire our designs.
-
Salary: Competitive and based on experience. We’re focused on finding the right designer and are open to discussing compensation that reflects your skills and expertise.
